* My sinus infection fucking hates me. Antibiotics, you are supposed to be helping my HEAD, not hurting my STOMACH.

* I just need to explain why I have been quiet about Roman Polanski. For myself. Here's how it goes in my head. Bold is one thought process, italics is the other.
He's one of my all-time favorite directors. He's a genius.
But he drugged and raped a 13 year-old.
That was a very long time ago. Will any good come of punishing him now?
He broke the law. He confessed. He needs to be punished. Time is irrelevant.
I love Rosemary's Baby.
That is a bullshit argument. He broke the law. He did something wrong. He should go to jail. He raped a girl.
There's a big debate that he was entrapped. I mean, the mom let the girl sleep over at his house. That's totally fucked up. You don't let your kid do that.
That is not excuse for what he did. If it's true, she should be punished too. But that doesn't excuse him.
But his wife and unborn child were murdered in the most heinous way imaginable. He's bound to be a little fucked up.
Is that the excuse you're going with? He BROKE THE LAW. YOU KNOW HE BROKE THE LAW. What happened to his family was awful, and utterly irrelevant to this situation. You don't get to rape kids because you've had a bad time of it.
No. I guess I'm just sad because I love his work so much, and think he's been through so many tragedies, but I do believe he deserves to go to jail. THAT SUCKS.
Yes, it does. But he broke the law. He did a really awful thing, and he needs to go to jail. You wouldn't be so lenient if he wasn't a famous director, would you?
No, probably not. I just hate the situation. And he's OLD.
Should the Lockerbie bomber have been released for health reasons?
Of course not. And I'm glad they didn't release the woman from the Manson family who had the brain tumor. But that's different.
Semantics. You want to give him a pass because you feel bad for him about the tragedies in his life, and because you respect him as an artist. You have to separate the person from the work. You always talk about that with your friends.
I know that. And I hate that this situation has made me one of those people who says, 'Yeah, he should go to jail, BUT...' That's bullshit. I don't WANT to be one of those people. He broke the law, and he should go to jail. I believe that. That's the way it works. He should be punished for his crimes. Justice has to be served. All the beautiful art and film in the world doesn't change that. EVER. But it doesn't make me happy about the situation. I hate that someone I admire so much on one way can be capable of such repellent acts in another way. And I can't explain this to people. I'm going to stay quiet.
That's probably your best bet. You're not very well-spoken.
We're the same person.
I know that.

I understand what you're saying here. And I think that is the problem facing a lot of fans of his work. Trying to seperate the monster from his work.

What happened to his family was horrible and the people responsible should be put to death and not wasting tax payer money in prison. Plain and simple.

But, it does not excuse what he did. NOTHING can excuse the drugging and rape of a child. Nothing. People saying that it was her mother's fault and not his...wtf? Seriously, her mother is at fault and deserves to be punished as well. BUT, it doesn't mean that Polanski should get off scott free. THE MAN RAPED A CHILD.

The victim even agreed to a plea bargin with his defense lawyers when this went to trial. He would have been given credit for time served and placed on probation have a very short stint in prison. (Like maybe two months in prison). Instead? He flees to France, where apparently it's okay to rape children. Thus, his victim suffers more, every time it is brought up.

I agree with absolutely everything you said. What makes me INSANE is when they act like the girl wanted it, or she was seducing him. ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS? SHE WAS 13.

I still don't get why he fled. I think morals are going to win out on this. Dude needs to go to jail. Doesn't make his work any less amazing.

I just want to know why people are defending him? Because he's old? Because he is a cinematic genius? NOT REASONS.

People are very stupid.

No excuse for taking innocence from a child. I speak from first hand experience. It happens more than people want to admit. I hide nothing and think this fucker needs to do time for his crime.

I was seven when it happened to me, I can only imagine what this girl has gone through.

They keep saying because she forgave him that he should be in the clear. Well, good for her. I'm glad she dealt with her issues. HAS NO BEARING ON THE CRIME.

How much did he pay her off is my fucking question. I will never forgive or forget what happened to me that day. I fight everyday to protect my children from people like that.

I don't care how fucking famous you are, you're HUMAN and if you're decent take it with responsible action.

Otherwise, burn em at the stake. I don't give a fuck how many movies he made, its WRONG.

I had a friend in high school. He was 17, dating a 15 year-old (she was turning 16). They dated, had sex, broke up after a few months. Usually high school melodrama. Only she accused him of rape after the fact, because she was pissed. I defended him, and got a lot of shit. BECAUSE IT WASN'T.

Point? ONLY time I have ever stood against a 'victim' or ever will.

If you can forgive someone for that, it's amazing. I have nothing but respect for that. If you can't, I understand.

But if the rapist has a SHRED of decency, they will accept what they have done, that what they have done is WRONG, and do whatever is in their power to make amends.

They don't run away.

I will always take the victim side because I know how it feels to get shit about lying..especially from ones own mother.

Never lied, can't make that shit up, would I ever.

He needs to go into a hole and never come out period.

No, that's why what she did made me so angry (the girl). A friend of ours was raped right before she pulled that shit. And I knew she was lying. Everyone knew. She TOLD PEOPLE she was kidding. And she didn't care. Her logic? 'Well, he shouldn't have dumped me.'

It's been 8 years and I still won't ever talk to her again. It's so disrespectful to people who have been through it.

He needs to go to jail, and we as a society need to man up.

People blaming the mother is like people blaming the parents of the kids who were molested by Michael Jackson. The fact that they keep trying to shift the blame to her is fucking ridiculous. Yes, she shouldn't have let her daughter stay the night, but let's move on! FOCUS ON THE BIG ISSUE HERE, PEOPLE.

Roman Polanski raped a child. He raped a 13 year old girl after he drugged her and even after she repeatedly said no. Oh, and rather than face up to his actions, he fled to another country so he couldn't be charged. How fucked up is all of that? Answer = Very.

It's about as fucked up as people who are defending his actions! You can bet if it was their daughter/sister/whatever, that they wouldn't be so quick to be like, "Oh she seduced him!/His wife was killed!/He's a wonderful director!"

None of that has ANYTHING to do with the situation. Sharon Tate had been dead since 1968/9, so that argument is out the window. The girl seducing him is ridiculous, since she was 13 {people argue about the age of consent in California being 14....she didn't consent and wasn't 14!}. Who cares about the movies he's made {I've seen The Ninth Gate and thought it was bullshit}? HE RAPED A CHILD!

For me, it's hard to have to admit that someone you think is so talented is a monster as well. You want to believe that people who make art that affects you profoundly are good, or at least decent.

The girl did not seduce him. At 13, you can't seduce a glass of fucking water.

And even if she did (SHE DIDN'T) that doesn't make it OK. WHO IS THE ADULT?

I just HATE that someone who can make me cry over the beauty of his work is so sick on another way. It makes me uncomfortable.

And I'm arguing with my friend over this, and may punch her at a later date.

Incidentally, the BOOK the Ninth Gate is based on is excellent.
